I currently find myself in the beautiful kingdom of Lesotho (Leh-soo-too) with my back to the sun and my Bible to my right, accompanied by a cup of tea (in a tin mug, my favorite) with a mountain view only millionaires could afford. But we are no millionaires, living in a small stone and tin home with seven other people, and I get to see it every morning. That alone is a blessing.

I realize that AIM’s intention with these blogs was to allow the Racer’s supporters to picture what it must be like living on the field, traveling month to month, engaging in different ministries. And I realize that, except Nicaragua and Honduras, you all, aside from the banner picture I change every month, have no idea where I am or what I am doing. Is this blog going to be the set up of our lives in Lesotho? Mm, no. Sorry. But, I truly do want whoever is reading this to get a taste for what life is like, so I’ve theorized that when this Race is over (which is sooner than I’m willing to admit), I might potentially spend the next months blogging about each country.  (And if you’re in Knoxville, maybe we’ll have a little PowerPoint get together.) I’d need some moral support, though, to know that it would be worth my time, so if that’s something you’d be willing to hear about, please comment your thoughts. I have no way of telling how well these blogs do until after I post them, and, truthfully, I don’t feel like writing eleven blogs if no one will read them. So know that you hold power in the matter. Comment on this blog. Life here is different, but it is still busy. And patience, they say, is a virtue, so hold tight while we finish up Race life, and I’ll spill all the details about my year.

But today, we have a SUPER FUN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE!!

I am once again asking for your financial support.

“Why? Are you going back out onto the mission field?”

Actually, yes. I wouldn’t ask for your money unless it was for a good cause. And clearly, you all thought missions a good enough cause to lend a hand to the first time, so why not a second?

But don’t worry, I’m not trying to raise 20k this time. I won’t be gone for another eleven months. I’m also not going on the 1040 trip, for those of you that have been saving that question, so I won’t even be gone for five months.

I’m going back to Honduras. ๐Ÿ™‚ For a week.

Just a week. So for those of you that care about me enough to read my blogs (thank you, I love you the most), know that I’m not leaving for long (this time).

“So… you’re flying back to Honduras to work with the ministry you worked alongside in January to do… more manual labor for a week?”

Yes.

“Sweet. A week isn’t bad– surely this trip won’t cost much.”

…heh. Yeah. Only $1200. The numbers are still working themselves out too, so this number could very well fluctuate.

If your immediate thought is: ‘Sarah, that’s not that much.’ Great! Um… please give freely, by all means, then. Heh. Thanks. (In fact, I could use your help for something else… see the footnote.)

If your immediate thought is: ‘Goodness gracious! For a week?!’ know that I’m right there with you. The week itself is ~relatively~ cheap. We’re purchasing supplies, food, lodging, gas, etc… The flights, on the other hand?? Different story. So you’re welcome to give me your best flying advice on how to get cheap tickets, take me in your private plane, or help contribute to the cause. Because after a year of living on a missionary budget (which, by the way, has a negative income), this trip costs more than my checking account can cover, if we’re being honest.

Why you would want to give:

  • Because the Bible says to be generous. (Boom. Can’t deny that one.)

  • You’d be supporting a church planted in an mountainous, indigenous community whose goal is to share the Gospel through their many programs, such as educating the mountain kids (who cannot attend/afford school), teaching the women of the community how to make an income by starting their own businesses and discipling the men of the mountain (because once you hook the man of the house, you can reach the whole family).

  • I just turned 22. Consider it a late birthday gift.

  • Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Why wouldn’t you want to be one of my reasons to be thankful?

  • So is Christmas! A solid Christmas gift is donating to a trip that will allow people to share the true meaning of Christmas.

  • New Years– It’s closer than we think. New year, new you! Adding “becoming a more generous person” or “donating to missions more” are both great resolutions and I’d love to help you achieve those.

Something to note: This trip is not in association with AIM. I will be traveling with Explore Church, a church founded by my Montanan squad mate, Naomi, and her family. This being the case, there will not be a bar at the top of this blog that you can donate to. (I’m sorry, I know that makes things easier.) BUT! Below, you will find a list of ways that you CAN donate (links included), so if you feel so inclined to help me return to one of the best places I got to visit this year, by all means, continue reading. ๐Ÿ™‚

Online payment options (quick and easy!):

  • Venmo

    • My Venmo is @sarahbadgett (easy peasy), and the verification code is 9703

  • PayPal

    • My PayPal is @srhbdgtt (my full name without any vowels). I don’t recall there being any verification code, so if there is, I’m sorry.

    • I’ve been having trouble with the link, so if the “PayPal” link redirects you to this blog, copy and paste paypal.me/srhbdgtt
  • Cash App

    • My Cash App is $sarahbadge11 (like Venmo’s but with an 11). Also can’t recall if there’s a code for that so just do whatcha gotta do.

Other payment options:

  • Cash

    • Uh… either wait until I arrive home in the middle of December to hand it to me personally or give it to my mother with a note explicitly stating “Sarah’s Honduras Trip.”

      • If you plan on giving me cash and you don’t live in Knoxville… I really do appreciate it… and I’m very interested to see your method…

        • If you’re a snail mail kinda person, you can request my physical address in the “contact me” section of this blog if, truly, need be.

  • Check

    • Make it out to “Sarah’s Honduras Trip :).” The smiley face is optional, but preferred. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I do not accept Crypto, Stocks, or Bitcoin.

So yeah! A big thank you to everyone reading this and an even bigger THANK YOU to those who are choosing to help a girl out. I’ll come back with stories to share, I’m certain.

That’s all for now. Know that I consistently work on a minimum of three blogs simultaneously so there’s something headed your way soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for your love, comments, shares and overall support. May God continue to reveal Himself to you.

*As stated previously, the lifestyle of a missionary does not allow for an income, meaning that checking my bank account has become a bleak chore rather than a check-in of my aspirations. At the end of this Race, AIM has so graciously given us a five-day vacation, where my squad and I will be enjoying and exploring Cape Town. While they have partially helped monetarily, the month of mid November to mid December will be something that falls on my financial shoulders. This period is entirely personal. I have no “good” cause to advocate for other than the simple fact that it’s hard to vacation and fly home on a slim budget. So, if you feel like funding groceries for a day or a night at an Airbnb, be my guest. And know that you’ll receive a very exuberant “thank you.” <3

  1. Yes Sarah!
We would love to go to a PowerPoint Presentation in Knoxville. We have read your blogs. I do enjoy your talent for writing! I would read more. Keep on writing! Hondurus? Was that where once working in the kitchen you felt God helped you communicate fluently in Spanish?
Looking forward to hearing more. Happy 22nd Birthday!

  2. Sarah – Items needing to be addressed:

    – Blogs: I read everyone of them in Montana and will read future ones. You make me laugh!
    – Regarding Honduras trip church: Formerly Outdoorsmen Church, now Explore Church (shameless plug to web-site, I’m sure you’d understand! https://www.explorechurch.cc)

  3. Yes, sweet girl! Please! Please! Please write those country and ministry dissertations when you get home. You know I will read them! I would like to see PowerPoints when you come to Colorado too!!! You can count on us for support. We love you so very much! Praying!

  4. We are so excited to take a team to serve with Catracho missions in January. Though a week is short we will be constructing a bathroom, staircase and painting the church. Sarah is signing up for a rugged and hard week all because she believes in the incredible ministry at Catracho. If you would like to give a tax deductible gift online, please go to explorechurch.cc. Click on give, ministry suporters and then Honduras missions. Then message Sarah or [email protected]. Thank you for your support!!

  8. Sarah,
Ditto the full response by Ginny K with a big dose of bear hugs thrown in on PowerPoint Day.

Thanks to ExploreChurch for the donation link above. You will find your donation there; it’s all God’s anyway, but it seems like good stewardship of His dollars when the U.S. government gives us some additional credit for contributing to Kingdom purposes. Kinda like the parable in Matthew 25 about multiplying what we’ve been given. The people of Honduras will be blessed by your return. (And a week is short, so we’ll look forward to that MTT when you return. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    You are loved!
